Kevin C. Jones
Kevin C. Jones’ work has been featured in a variety of literary journals and anthologies, including The New York Times and Red, White, and True: The American Military Story from World War II to Present. A former Marine, he holds an MFA from Queens University of Charlotte and a PhD from the University of Florida. He lives and works in Florida’s Tampa Bay area.
Collateral Damage is a wonderful debut collection that kept me hooked to the last page. These honest stories from former Marine Kevin Jones are witty and sad and so well done, adding new modern twists on all the old war-story tropes. There is pain and heartache here, but also redemption.
—Brian Castner, author of Disappointment River: Finding and Losing the Northwest Passage
In Collateral Damage, Kevin Jones proves himself a masterful writer-chameleon—a writer so capable of shapeshifting into various storytelling voices and circumstances that you’d swear he’s inhabited the life of each character . . . the veteran, the girlfriend, the teenage daughter, and others. Jones’s Collateral Damage is a collection deserving of shelf space alongside work by short-story giants Denis Johnson and Amy Hempel.
—Tracy Crow, author of Cooper’s Hawk and Eyes Right: Confessions from a Woman Marine
I love this collection by Kevin Jones. These stories live in the real-world psychedelics of warfare, poverty, love, hate, and just trying to get by. Jones's evocative language, the high stakes, and heartfelt characters create worlds of wonder and grace. The explosions, real and psychological, have a burning effect on the reader. Nothing here is easy, but so much is gained.
—Anthony Swafford, author of Jarhead: A Marine's Chronicle of the Gulf War and Other Battles
